WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA), which became effective July 1, 2000, established a national workforce preparation and employment system to meet the needs of businesses, job seekers and those who want to further their careers. Customers will have easy access to information and services through the One-Stop Career Center system.
The purpose of these services is to promote an increase in the employment, job retention, earnings, and occupational skills improvement by participants. This, in turn, improves the quality of the workforce, reduces welfare dependency, and improves the productivity and competitiveness of the nation.
