POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TRANSPORTATION PLANNER
The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments (WRCOG), a multi-disciplined regional planning and development organization serving Georgetown, Horry, and Williamsburg counties in South Carolina, is seeking a qualified entry to mid-level transportation planner. The purpose of this position is to coordinate rural transportation and transit activities among units of local government and other agencies providing transportation services. This position requires a clear understanding of regional transportation planning and its principles, practices, and techniques. The duties and responsibilities for this position include the collection and analysis of traffic and land use data; the facilitation of meetings with the general public and appointed/elected officials; the preparation and presentation of technical reports and studies; and the coordination of rural transportation or transit efforts with other programs and agencies within the region.
The successful applicant will serve in the WRCOG’s planning department. The department provides general technical assistance to local communities, facilitates 208 Water Quality planning, provides GIS services, and provides staffing to the GSATS MPO. In addition to rural transportation and transit responsibilities, the successful applicant will perform other duties and tasks in support of the department’s and WRCOG’s core functions.
This position requires a Master’s Degree in Planning with emphasis in transportation or transportation engineering; or an undergraduate degree in a related field with three years of relevant work experience. GRANT SPECIALIST
Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments is a regional government agency that serves Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties. The Council is seeking a Grants Specialist to research, write, coordinate, develop, implement and administration of grant projects and programs for the Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments. This position involves understanding various charitable foundations and government agency grants, especially US Dept. of HUD, Commerce, EDA, and Agriculture and other grant sources that offer funding to match Council plans and programs. Additionally, reviews and authors plans, reports, proposals, project narratives, budgets and supporting documents to meet grant application deadlines.
This position requires a combination of education, training or experience that provides the knowledge, skill and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the job. A Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Social Sciences, Business Administration or closely related field; supplemented by two years of experience and/or training in grant writing, marketing, partnership development and some knowledge of work with government agencies and non-profit.
